An Interview with Mr. Ruth

Dave Ruth has been a dedicated faculty member at Lutheran Westland for the last 35 years. We decided it would be of interest for more people to hear his story. One of our seniors, Ryan Coughlin, interviewed Mr. Ruth to learn more about his history in Lutheran Education.

What year did you start teaching?

First-year he taught here was in 1987. He taught drafting.
He began teaching at Lutheran Westland full-time in 1993.
He brought all of the Industrial Arts equipment from Lutheran West when it closed.
He took automotive classes in college (Wayne State) and got his minor in Social Studies.
Prior to teaching at Lutheran Westland, he taught at Lutheran East for four years.

What noticeable differences are there throughout the school?

The most significant difference is the “new” gym or West Gym - which included the lobby, locker rooms, the stage, and the weight room.
The library transitioning into the Media Center.
New lockers, all new lights, and air conditioning!
All new classrooms and cabinets in the rooms.
