when is testing for incoming freshmen?

-Incoming Freshmen take a placement test called the High School Placement Test (HSPT). Testing takes place in November & December of each year. Students need to only attend one test. Please check the school calendar for specific dates.

When is new student orientation?

-Freshmen student and parent orientation & transfer student and parent orientation both occur in August. Please check the school calendar for specific dates. The student luau and parent social are held the same evening as orientation.

Where can i find the dress code?

-The dress code is available in the Student Handbook.

What do i need for lunch?

-Typically, Monday is a “Bring Your Own Lunch” day with a la carte items available. Hot lunch is cooked by our chef on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Friday is typically a pizza lunch. Students are able to pay for meals with cash. Students are allowed to bring their own lunch as they desire.

What and when are service days?

-The school set aside one Service Day a year for students to interact with and serve the community. Students participate in Service Days within a mixed grade group that consist of about 18 students, under the supervision of a faculty member or school volunteer. Lutheran Westland’s National Honor Society Chapter plans and organizes these projects which are carried out by one of the service groups. For Service Day dates, check the school calendar. Past projects spread across Metro-Detroit at Starfish Family Services, Gleaners Food Bank in Detroit, interior painting & construction clean-up at Family of God Detroit, just to name a few'.

How can i stay current on lutheran Westland events?

-To stay current on Lutheran High events, you can access the school calendar. The daily announcements (available every day on PowerSchool) and the Weekly Warrior (emailed every week) also include information about school events and activities.

Are there lutheran schools in the area where younger children can attend before going to lutheran high?

-Yes, there are many within 40 minutes of Lutheran High. Find one near you!

What is the protocol for my student taking medication while at school?

-Medicine protocols can be found in the Student Handbook.

How do I notify the school if my student is going to be absent or late, or needs to leave school early?

-Please call or email the office before 9 a.m. on the day of the absence. Students who must leave early or who are late due to an appointment must inform the office either by a phone call or note from the parent/guardian.

How can parents be involved with the school?

-The Booster Club (music, drama and athletics) and the Prayer Warriors (prayer support group) provide a great deal of support for the school and provide parents the opportunity to be involved. Please contact the office for more information.

When are sports tryouts?

-The MHSAA sets the specific dates for fall, winter, and spring athletics for when a season can begin. Lutheran Westland will post the dates and times on a weekly basis using Constant Contact and the BigTeams Calendar Subscription. Calling the school office at 734-422-2090 is an option as well.

Is there pre-season training for athletics teams? if SO, when?

-A summer calendar will be built in the spring and shared with all families at Lutheran Westland using Constant Contact and the BigTeams Calendar Subscription. Players will also receive schedules and workouts directly from the head coach for each sport. Prospective students can get contact information from our office or reach out to the Athletic Director, Ryan Baglow, at rbaglow@lhsa.com.
