Staff Spotlight: Micah Lorenzen

20 Questions

  1. What’s your title at Lutheran Westland?

    Principal

  2. Where are you from?

I grew up in Pipestone, Minnesota. I went to college at Concordia University Wisconsin. I’ve lived in the north Dallas area and worked at Prince of Peace in Carrollton, TX since college.

  3. When did you know that you wanted to be in the Lutheran high school environment and what led you to pursue that path?

My mom was a preschool teacher at St. Paul Lutheran in Pipestone, Minnesota, so I was exposed to Lutheran ministry from an early age. My interest in social studies and athletics drew me into teaching.

It wasn’t until about my sophomore year of college that I was finally comfortable with the path God was leading me down and ready to follow it.

  4. What’s your favorite Bible verse?

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness,[a] and to walk humbly with your God?

  5. What are three words to best describe you?

    Hardworking, Loving, Father

  6. What was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I worked at a job manufacturing metal parts for large equipment. It wasn’t much fun.

  7. Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?

    All things farm-related.

  8. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

    To run really fast.

  9. What’s your favorite food?

    Coffee

  10. What’s your least favorite food?

    Onions

  11. What’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled and why?

The Black Hills in South Dakota. It was a favorite vacation spot for my brother, my dad, and I. We would take horses out to the Black Hills, camp out, and ride through the hills.

  12. Where would you like to travel next and why?

I would like to travel to Europe with my wife and visit small towns, coffee shops, and run.

  13. What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

I rode horses a lot growing up.

We’d go to local shows and compete in races like poles and barrels.

  14. What’s one hobby you’d like to get into?

I’ve always wanted to spend more time on the water fishing and kayaking.

  15. What’s your favorite sport to watch and which team do you root for?

Track and field (there are no “teams”).

I root for the hardworking blue-collar runners.

  16. Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Naturally a night owl and seeks to be an early bird

  18. What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?

Spending time with my family at the Gathering Place in Tulsa, OK.

  19. What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

Leave a place better than you found it. It was a constant for my dad. This is applicable to so many situations, but really the main takeaway is to positively contribute to a situation/place. Don’t just consume and take, but rather do the little things to help contribute to growth and improvement.

  20. Is there any advice you’d offer to current and future Lutheran Westland students?

I would give a variation of the advice that was given to me. Westland is your community. How are you contributing to make it better? What groups, teams, organizations, or classes are you invested in? The legacy of Lutheran Westland is strong and our current and future students must continue to step up to push that legacy into the future.
